Supporting Innovation and Sustainability at Climathon Bratislava 2024: A Commitment to a Greener Tomorrow
As a company committed to protecting our planet, we were proud to support and participate in this year’s Climathon Bratislava 2024, the biggest environmental hackathon in Slovakia. As the main partner of this unique event, we witnessed ideas that can truly transform our city for the better.
Throughout the Climathon, we saw an incredible amount of talent, creativity, and determination. Teams of young innovators presented projects that combined technology and environmental solutions. It was an honor for us to be part of this event and contribute to the development of these ideas for helping our city, Bratislava, face the climate challenge.
This year’s winning projects demonstrated an outstanding level of practicality and impact:
First place was awarded to an app that categorizes books and advises whether it’s worth selling them or recycling them. This idea not only promotes recycling but also supports sustainable decision-making in managing personal libraries.
Second place went to an app designed to help efficiently identify locations for container sites. The app evaluates all essential criteria, such as rules, regulations, and limits for placement, significantly reducing the number of rejected requests. It’s a tool that can collaborate with the city of Bratislava to improve the container placement process.
This year’s Climathon was particularly special for our company because, for the first time, our colleagues also participated! Team Green Wheater, which included members of IBL staff, showcased their passion for innovation and environmental topics. We are incredibly proud to announce that they achieved a fantastic third place! Congratulations!

Our project had a clear goal: to find the most efficient ways to increase greenery in Bratislava. We focused on optimizing the selection of areas for planting trees on city-managed properties. The team analyzed various locations and proposed solutions to maximize their use for planting while considering all limitations. We took into account, for example, minimum distances from utilities, electrical lines, and other restrictions that might prevent planting. We are set to work with city of Bratislava to bring this tool into operation.
This success proves that our team is filled with people who are dedicated and capable of driving positive change. And we firmly believe that initiatives like this play a key role in building a sustainable future. That’s why we are delighted that the city of Bratislava supports such events and young visionaries whose ideas contribute to a greener tomorrow.
The success of the Climathon Bratislava 2024 further reinforces our belief that events like these play a crucial role in shaping a sustainable future. They provide a platform for young visionaries to present their ideas, collaborate with like-minded individuals, and receive guidance from experienced mentors. It is through such events that we can foster the next generation of environmental leaders and entrepreneurs who will drive positive change in their communities and beyond.
Already, at last year's Climathon, I was impressed by the high schoolers who participated in the city's hackathon. Therefore this year together with Civitta we decided to specially honour best of them by introducing Young Hacker Award, and we are proud we could have sponsor this award.
When I was their age, I wished I had had the opportunity to meet creative people like them. Today, Climathon is about creating a sustainable future. And we as organizers also need to ensure and educate such fully dedicated future hackers. Therefore giving them chances and visibility like this one is extremely important.

The insights, ideas, and passion shared at Climathon Bratislava 2024 have left us inspired and motivated to continue supporting such initiatives.
